The Preah Sihanouk Provincial Governor, Kouch Chamroeun, has noted the event and called up on vulnerable people, especially the elderly, to take precautions during the cold weather.

On Sunday afternoon, 5 December, Governor Kouch Chamroeun has distributed gifts to the poor and the homeless elderly in Sihanoukville, for cold protection. According to the Government’s data, there are 502 poor and homeless elderly people living in four different communes in Sihanoukville.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has also advised authorities to check the poor and elderly due to the cold weather, which will take hold at the beginning of December. Forecasters have predicated this year the temperatures will fall below those of last years.

The Governor also called on grandparents to take care of their health when the weather is cold. He advised the vulnerable to use gel, alcohol and keep a safe distance which is important for all in the communities.

As part of donations, poor elders have received a winter coat and a blanket, as well as a scarf, tea bag, sugar, 6 cans of condensed milk, one box of cakes, ten masks and a budget of 50,000 riels.
